It's been a few calendar weeks since the festival of kitchen mess that was week 3, so it was exciting to pull out the book on Thursday night and start making shopping and financial plans so we could be ready for week 4 of the Pizza by the Book Challenge.
Jon and I decided to economise slightly by both choosing pizzas which featured gorgonzola cheese. I must admit that I'm not a fan of blue cheese in general, but I don't mind the flavour occasionally.
Both Pizzas were really good this week (actually they have been every week), and neither required the crazy shopping or preparation that jon's selection from week 3 required. Although we did have to search high and low for fresh figs - and settle for using dried ones. I added up the cost of the un-usual or extra ingredients we had to buy to make them, and it came to $35 - the cost of two 'gourmet' pizzas from a shop I recon.
I did learn that gorgonzola on pizzas is best enjoyed in smaller doses than an entire pizza's worth! The flavour built piece by piece until it became a bit much. The first few pieces were really good though - and totally different to what I'd normally make.
Now we've done the 4 weeks, the next week is our reward.. dessert pizzas!
