I've just been up for a swim in the hotel pool. It was as warm as a bath - persumably their biggest problem is trying to keep it cool given the high temperatures for 10 months of the year, and the scorching temperatures for the other two.
I know this is really going to be a fortnight of contrasts and here's just one. While I was up at the pool, I took some shots of the skyline..(as much as you could call it that)..
A lot of Chennai is either being torn down, or built up, and it's really difficult to tell which is which - the new structures look just as old and tired as the half demolished old ones next to it. And there are lots of rubble filled spaces which are neither one nor the other.
There are plenty of places where people are washing their clothes just with some water from a jug and slapping them against concrete, or filling large water carriers from taps in the street. Plumbing is obviously a luxury around here. Even when you are right next door to a big hotel like this guy washing his clothes..
