Just after lunch on the 27th of December this year Jon and I happened to be at the Fleming's and I suddenly thought that it would be nice if we had it at our house for a while, so on the spur of the moment we took it with us home and set it up in the living room. It had been living out on the deck at the Fleming's so it had suffered a fair bit of rust and general wear. Jon had already put a towel over the playing field in these photos but you can see how rusty the bars were..
So Jon couldn't resist getting some steel wool and having a go at bits of it and before ten minutes was gone we were all helping..
and while the players waited nervously in a casserole dish - no doubt wondering about their fate ..
and day turned into night, and night turned into later night we set about re-assembling everything..it's surprising how many ways you can get it wrong (men facing backwards, using the wrong rods, handles on wrong side of table etc etc). I think we made every possible mistake. But we got it almost right in the end.
then finally at about 10:30 pm, it was all back together..
so we got the children back out of bed so we could all have a well deserved game.
It was a great unplanned afternoon - not because rubbing at rust with steel wool is particularly fun, but it was super fun doing it all together. yay us.
