Lately I've been involved in fundraising for the Cancer Council's Relay For Life event which was held last week. My work team (and I can sort of say 'my' team as I was captain) raised a respectable sum of money and then we had a great time during the 24 hour walk with the 100 other teams and 2900 other people at the athletics track. Aside from being weary I'm very satisfied with our efforts - it was a good thing for the community and a nice thing for us as a group to do. Anyway - my favourite fund raising event was 'Smart Friday' where ties were compulsory for the day. We sourced a stack of ties from St Vinnies and sold them at the office door. Some people opted to bring some 70's and 80's classics of their own but they still had to contribute a dollar to the fund. It was really successful and I'd most people enjoyed the day as dressing up isn't really something that happens at our workplace - in fact casual friday was never going to be an option for us as if casual was defined 'casual relative to the other days', people would be turning up in their undies.
Anyway - if anyone else gets a chance to join a team for this event I'd recommend it - it's good for everyone.
