Plugged

Let me just lay it on the table and say that it's been 18 years since I've been to Europe.  By strange co-incidence it has also been 18 years since Jon has been to Europe  - at that time we weren't together and we were there for completely different reasons; I was there to play the World Ultimate Champs in Linkoping Sweden, and Jon was orienteering all around Scandinavia.

So. A lot has changed. Granted, since that time we've both been ski-ing together in Canada, and that was certainly a long  long-haul flight, (as opposed to our last O/S trip  to NZ, which is definitely not that much of a haul at all). For NZ we were pretty excited about having screens on every seat -  this time the technology has gone up another notch or 50. For example, in 1996 I recon I travelled with a book or two, and I definitely remember having a sony walkman and a few mix tapes.

This time my carry-on is full to bulging with:

• phone,
• macbook
• ereader 
• flashy headphones
• actual book (cos i didn't realise you were allowed to have your ereader on during takeoff/landing)
• all manner of chargers

Consequently the kids are happily engaged here:

Yep that's my headphones you see plugged in.  I've used them for the first time on this flight and they were amazing, so worth having to charge!  Anyway - better rush off and plug in my mac so it lasts for the next 20 hours! 

Oh and one other thing, it was pretty exciting checking in our bags at Hobart Airport and not planning on seeing them again until Oslo (or, if things don't go well for them.... never).  

Of course if our bags don't turn up in Oslo, the kids will be standing around in crocs in negative degrees with snow forecast. hmm.. possibly should have considered that earlier..
