Tullah Challenge

 This photo is kind of indicative of the standard of photographs we managed to take today - I intended to take one of Jon running towards me obviously but by the time I'd finished turning it on (and then off, and then on again), he was kind of over there.  Still, I kind of like the photo anyway in it's own way and hopefully the 'official' photographer will have managed to get something good. 

Jon had a great race today - he was 6th overall in both the road bike (finishing in a bunch sprint for 1st after 29kms), then he had a great run and finished 6th in that as well. If he had done it all by himself and taken the same time as me for the paddle he would have been 4th overall.    I paddled as fast as I could and finished about 27th overall (of 80), 2nd female (of 23), and broke the course record for the veteran (over 40) female paddle leg apparently.  However it wasn't good enough to give us a win in the mixed veterans category with the team that beat us by 90 seconds or so at the Freycinet Challenge pipping us by 16 seconds.  Their team (of 3 today) has a paddler who is just a bit more faster than me than Jon is faster than their speedy female runner (who claimed her own record for the run today and was the fastest female).  I can't deny that I'm disappointed as Jon did so fantastically well today,  but we had a great fun day today and Tullah is a lovely place to be (for a short time anyway!). The kids played and cycled and had a good time and if we weren't heading off to the Mt Roland race tomorrow I'd be going out for a nice long paddle on the lake. Something to look forward to next time I guess!
