Yesterday (or was it the day before), we did the Otway Fly. All of us. Including Granny. Now, Granny doesn't normally accompany us on our extreme adventures, in fact when I recently suggested she go swimming in a swimming pool she was horrified. So how did Granny end up swinging 20 metres in the air attached to a 300 metre zipline? She actually thought we were going to do a tree tops walk* And she continued to believe that (as in fact the Otway Fly used to just be the Otway Tree-Tops Walk) until we were led into a briefing room full of harnesses, pulley things and helmets.
Granny's look of apprehension and 'oh my knitting-needles, what have they got me into' only increased in severity as the safety briefing went on - but good on Granny, she didn't bail out at this point - or at any point. In fact she did very well and even managed to unclench a hand from the harness thingy to manage a quick wave on the last of the 7 zip lines. It's kind of ironic that she was so exhausted after the tour that she didn't have the energy to actually do the tree-tops walk and the nice guides gave her a lift back up to the visitor centre in their buggy instead.
