I've got a new phone (an HTC Wildfire) and it is very cool - although probably no cooler than any other current phone at the moment but it's the first time I've had a touch-screen and stuff so it is very exciting for me. One of the coolest things is that I can put it in a waterproof case ($20) and I can take it with me kayaking - and more importantly, I can use it while it is still in its case. I've always got an EPIRB thingy with me but I've always suspected that there's going to situations somewhere between everything being ok, and needing to be rescued by a helicopter. So with a mobile I could just ring Jon or Mum and they can come and sort out my middle-emergency - i.e. I've ended up on the wrong beach, or I've forgotten a towel, or I really need $2 to buy a can of diet coke. yay.
The other cool thing about my phone and it's waterproof case is that I can take 5 megapixel photos while I'm out on the water - although as this requires me to stop paddling I'm immediately risking a middle-emergency as low speed makes me very tippy indeed. Still - here is one of Clare the other day.
