Emotions

Work has continued at St Canice Avenue - in fact it has absorbed almost all of my spare time for the last 3 or 4 weeks.   The carpet is laid all throughout the house and the freshly painted rooms all sport new curtains (a late night sewing project), and it's all looking fantastic. 

The back garden looks really pretty without the clutter and reminds me more of my youth, when there was enough space for Paul and I to play hockey from one end of the garden to the other - one goal was the garage door, the other, less favoured goal was past the washing line with a tricky bend to navigate in between - I'm amazed we didn't break any windows as I vaguely remember we were playing with a regular hockey ball.

Anyway - Rob has done the new flooring in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry which also looks amazing. 

Partly because the volume of work has been so huge, and partly because I know that mum is very happy to have left this house (and dad is OK with it at least), I haven't felt any sadness at all.  Well I hadn't, until I was sweeping the sunroom a few days ago, and I found this one last block of nutrigrain hiding in the corner:

It immediately made me remember a particular period in time when I think dad was most happy in that spot as various before school dropoffs by the Flemings & McCombs would result in him sharing his breakfast table with anywhere between 1 & 4 nutrigrain loving grandchildren.  I wrote about it in this post:  

I think he really loved it.  In fact he was a good grand-dad - he was involved in lots of things and even became treasurer of the local playgroup and would take Miley and Toby each week - I can only imagine the conversations he would have been having on the side-lines with the other mothers (and maybe grandparents).  So as I swept I was suddenly very sad to come across that nutrigrain shaped reminder of those times. Although as I write this I can see that there was no need to be sad, that block is a reminder of some of the happy moments that dad got to enjoy with his grand children.
