The greatly anticipated huon show day finally occurred today and it was a smorgasbord of animals, action, displays and fast food of varying quality (I of course chose the culinary low brow option - see right). We arrived just in time to see the goats being judged for the Best Udder and we spent a long time watching dogs of various breeds being prepped and judged in scenes which looked like they were taken straight from that Best In Show movie. Unfotunately the constant drizzle meant we couldn't quite stick it out for the dog highjump which was about to take place right in front of us (in fact at the huon show everything happens right in front of you really) but it was a great morning though. One of my favourite things is that theres no facades or frills at the show - all the roses are in beer bottles for judging (some didn't even have the labels removed), the beer shed really is a shed, the various animal pens and sheds look exactly as they would have done 50 years ago and some of the handlers do too although I guess 50 years ago there wouldn't be quite so many alpacas as they seemed to outnumber the regular farm animals.
