The promise of a tidy sum of money for a rushed cake job (well it would be less rushed if I wasn't going away tomorrow) turned out to be too hard to resist so I'm up late tonight waiting for a cake to come out of the oven. It's 1:35am now and if I'm lucky I'll be in bed by 2. Actually now is probably a good time to ring all the new mums as they are all probably up too! (Julie, Sarah & Alexa HELLOOOO!!) but I might wake any sleeping babies (although I'm probably more likely to wake the daddies as the babies are sure to be up anyway.
Work is still good, I'm still enjoying it but it still presents a lot of logistical hassles just getting to it each day. I got paid for my first weeks work and it's a good thing I'm enjoying it as my 40 hour week pays less than half my last full time job did and after childcare I make about $120 per week. Lets not calculate THAT hourly rate! I've decided to think of it as an apprenticeship - as despite the fact that my 10 year IT career has given me a set of skills which did help me get this job, I'm not an animator and I haven't trained in anything similar and there'd be heaps of people out there willing to do this stuff for free (including me but maybe not to the tune of 40 hours a week!). I'm not actually going to get to animate (unless someone get's sick!) but I'm helping with the layout assembly as I might have mentioned before. As the project is not up to the layout part yet I've been doing some drawing of some of the major characters this week - converting the illustrators pencil sketches into 'rigs' which will start to move as required during each shot. blah blah. The series is aimed at 12-ish year old girls and is about a girl with a magical mobile phone from which her cheeky friend Pixel Pinkie emerges and takes quite literally some of her wishes - I've read the scripts which are ready and there's even one with orienteering in it which is cool.
Right - I'm going to drag this cake out of the oven, then drag myself to bed. Tomorrow Jett and I are flying to Adelaide to meet up with Zali and Jon who left yesterday and got the boat and drove across. From all reports they are having a great time.
Happy Easter then.
