Well 3 days into my new job and all is running smoothly - we've all got new schedules featuring earlier starts and more structured days (for me at least !) but it's going well so far. The job itself is a bit slow to get going but it is giving me a chance to stick my nose into lots of the other aspects of the animation stuff. My job is officially called Layout Assembler - so for each shot of each episode I get everything ready for the show-pony animator to animate including all the sound, storyboard, characters, backgrounds, props, blah blah blah... It involves a bit of creativeness but mostly (95%) of logic and organisation. I'm enjoying poring over scripts and drawing over background images and doing some simple animations of my own ( I'd never be let loose on the real thing of course). It's a casual place clothes-wise but seems to be a bit.. um... archaic in many other ways! everyone (else) works 9-6 with 1-2pm lunch and no variations. I negotiated an 8:30 start time so I could make it to creche in time but that is about as flexible as they seem to get. And I had to get official permission to get a pencil from the meagre stationary cupboard today. whatever..
