And on a par with the likelyhood of me throwing a basket from beyond the halfway line was Zali appearing at our bedroom door at 7.30 on Saturday morning (she would normally sleep until 10 if left undisturbed) - declaring that she'd like to do Little Athletics.. Zali is the last kid I would have picked to have a hankering for some competitive sport at 8.30 in the morning. After checking we hadn't woken up in some alternate reality, google told us that the next Kingborough little athletics meet started at 8.30 just a few minutes drive from our house so off we went. I dropped Zali and Jon off and took Jett to swimming lessons. When we got back to them an hour or so later, Zali had competed in the triple jump and was eagerly awaiting her next event. She got to do 4 events in the morning - 100m, 60 m hurdles, shotput and triple jump and she loved it. Whilst I'm really glad she wants to do some organised sport, I wasn't very excited to realise that little athletics isn't quite like a 30 minute swimming lesson, it takes all morning - why didn't anyone tell us! We had dinner at a friends house last night and it seems like we were last to know about this. hmmph. I'm going to be arranging some glossy brochures for other (quicker) sports around the house I over the next week I recon.
