Ok - so there's much talk about the point at which babies learn to crawl and suddenly the house needs to be baby-proofed. Then of course the moment they walk is a big deal. But there's not enough discussion of the huge milestone which is when they can read and write. Firstly - they are suddenly able to read (aloud) over your shoulder as you read your trashy books - this can be simply annoying, or worse can result having to answer complex questions. Secondly they can read lists you make - so you can't have items like 'Sell kids on ebay' without having to answer questions and then hide the DOCS phone numbers, and thirdly, unusual things start turning up on shopping lists - take for example the shopping list which is on the fridge. This is how it looked this morning.. It is worth mentioning that we don't have a cat. Why was it there? Well - it turns out Zali's teacher has a cat and she wanted to send some food home for it. A kind thought but does this mean we will have to start feeding the rest of Zali's teacher's family as well? What if she has a lot of kids who have a penchant for crayfish? I guess we'll wait and see what turns up on the list..
