So after my last post, mum gave me the card of a non-franchise vacuum cleaner retailer and repairer and a quote from them for the Miele model I was interested in. It seems they were willing to sell their Mieles! I decided to go there, not to buy a Miele, but to see if I could simply get the powerhead of the Electrolux repaired, and have the rest of the vacuum cleaner serviced. Unfortunately as I searched for the old powerhead I started to have vague recollections of throwing out the old one in a fit of vacuum cleaner rage. Well, not really a fit, I find I am very unemotional when it comes to vacuum cleaning, it was more a sigh of annoyance.
So instead I went to the store to buy a new powerhead, and while I was there the guy recommended that I replace the filters on the vacuum. So $220 later, the vacuum cleaner works like new and I'm happy that I stood my ground with Godfreys as this is a much better result all round - I'm glad I didn't have to buy a new cleaner - the world has enough vacuum cleaners already.
