Last Sunday, Clare, the kids and I went blackberry picking up beside some horse trails overlooking North West Bay. (And also overlooking the Margate Tip but it sounds a lot less idyllic if I mention that so I won't).
And we did really well! Our arms got prickles and our fingers (and mouths) turned purplish, but we got heaps.. and it was lovely being out in the sun.
The last time I went blackberry picking was also with Clare. Back in 1990. We spent the day picking blackberries on Dad's farm. Then we spent the evening turning the blackberries into blackberry jam. Then we took it all to an orienteering event the next day to sell to raise money for our team's trip to the World Junior Orienteering Championships in Sweden. We sold it all and raised the grand total of around $50. Split between the team of 9 runners and a manager. hmm...
This time I put the blackberries to much better use:
Blackberry Cheesecake Slice. Yum.
