After what felt like quite a long trip (24 hours from work door to cabin-door), we have arrived in Canberra for the Australian Easter 3 day orienteering champs.
The trip was mostly uneventful* but the stretch from Melbourne to Yass seemed to drag on a bit, simply because we were a few hours late getting off the ferry this morning - due to some non-specific delays we got off at about half past 8, when we've previously been driving off at 6.30am. So that meant we were thrown into a bit more traffic than normal, and maybe we were a bit more awake!
Our first stop after Melbourne was at the Hollbrook submarine for lunch.. Everyone looks a bit like they are wearing velcro suits and are stuck to the submarine.
The long trip has already been worth it though, both for us - as we've already caught up with our good buddies from Sydney and Melbourne, and for our bikes that we have dragged along, as we've also already been for a super-fun little ride around Bruce Ridge, which is right behind where we are staying.
This year (or any other year) we're not that serious about the orienteering, we've got a bit of a list of other things we want to do while we are here - we'll have to see how we go!
* we witnessed a car losing a hubcap at 100ks an hour, which was interesting as it came spinning towards the traffic but managed to miss everything, and also a car right in front of us had a 100 km/h tyre blowout with burning rubber and grinding metal, which luckily ended up ok as well.
