Euro Day 34 - O-Ringen, Race Day 2

I took next to no photos today, so luckily for me we had a follow up interview by one of the O-Ringen journalists (he interviewed us by email back when we entered), so my blog is effectively already written.. read this.. from the O-Ringen website:

Heh heh!! 

So that pretty well sums up the day - Zali (and about 3 other people exiting the same control) got stung by a swarm of bees. She fled immediately but was chased by them out to a track.  She wasn't exaggerating when she said she got stung 10 times, it looks more like 15 or so times.  Poor Zali. Luckily she isn't allergic.  They have first aid stations on the course so she had the presence of mind to go to one of them before she abandoned her course due to the pain and walked back. Ouch.

The rest of us didn't encounter any bees and we all did fine. There were so many moments out there when I just looked around and took in the absolutely beautiful forest. We're so lucky to be here!

After we got back to the campervan we did our interview then relaxed in the shade before heading off to part 2 of the indoor orienteering.  Unfortunately for us Zali's bee stings didn't affect her new found indoor orienteering super-talent and she beat us all by 7 minutes again.  I don't know how she did it as it was so tricky! There was one leg I couldn't figure out at all but by then Jett had caught up so once he worked out a solution I just followed him. I'd still be standing in that school corridor otherwise.   Yesterday Zali was 8th out of 94 people - I reckon she'll be about the same today (update - 7th of 131).  She's amazing.

 Out of interest this is the O-Ringen laundry (in a tent). It's staffed by about 6 people and free! Just another wonder of O-Ringen.
