Wet Day

The theme of today could have been water as we started out with a quick car ferry ride across from Russell (which reminded me of Port Douglas) to the main resort town in the Bay of Islands - which felt a lot like Airlie Beach - the area itself was a colder version of the Whitsundays..  Anyway - from there we did a sea kayaking tour out into the bay and up a mangrove river which was pretty cool.   Along the way we put out a trailing line and Jett and I reeled in fish every few minutes. In the end I had to pull the line in as I couldn't bring myself to get it off the hook so the guide Dan (who was stereotypically guide-like) had to keep coming over to get it off for me which was a bit uncool.  Anyways we all had a fun time  - I would have loved to have my surf ski - or even just a faster moving paddle powered vessel to myself as it would be a fantastic place to get it out and explore for days on end. As it is we really didn't spend enough time there really but we had to push on. In any case it started to rain as we were finishing up and didn't stop for the rest of the day.
