Kitchen Crimes

Let it be known that it is very much a kitchen crime* to attempt to make beeswax wraps in a domestic environment. Not only does wax get everywhere, the house stinks, the oven is never the same, and it's best not to even admit where the new stains on the ironing board have come from.

This mess came about as a result of the cancellation of the Australian Orienteering Championships. My grand plan of giving out (professionally) Tasmanian made beeswax wraps of maps as prizes was halted halfway through production and we ended up with a roll of material with 160 map squares printed onto it.  We have new plans for most of the material, but I also wanted to make some beeswax wraps to use as prizes at the annual awards night.   So I set about ordering wax, resin stuff, and some fancy oil online, and once it arrived, Zali and I followed what seemed like a foolproof and straight forward instructions from the web. We must be fools though because it took us a while to get it right.

 But after some trial and error we finally found our groove and the final products were ok.  For the sake of the kitchen I'm not ever doing it again though.

*Kitchen crimes are not new to me - in fact I am a specialist in using kitchen implements for non-kitchen activities. Growing up Dad would often complain about the absence of implements like his favourite knife, only to find it 10 years later when he cut down a tree in the back yard. (I don't know anything about that Dad - but Denny probably did it).
