Not the perfect cake day

Today I had 2 cakes to deliver so I decided to get an earlyish start and take in the 80 cupcakes and small top tier to the city at 11am for the 2pm function. Unfortunately upon  relieved arrival (the  figurines made it in one piece - always a worry)  I discovered that the wedding was in fact tomorrow. doh!! Still  it would have been  worse finding out that it happened yesterday I guess. So I went home and hung out with the kids. and Denny's kids.. And the two other neighbourhood kids.  All wanting to do playdoh   at the same small table at the same time, in the same chair and all wanting to use the same rolling pin at once.. but I digress.  At 4pm I packed up the car with wedding cake number two (see right) which was due out at the venue at 4:30. I arrived at 4:35 moments before the first guests arrived which generally the last sight I want to see as the cake should be set up and I should be long gone before they get there.

It turned out that the guests were actually the second last sight I wanted to see as the last sight I wanted to see was what I saw when I opened up the back of the car.  There was the top tier of the cake  minus its figurines which had stage-dived from the cake to the floor of the car.  So in front of arriving taxis and guests I had to carry in the cake - bottom two tiers first, then the top tier and the figurines (the tiers travel seperately)  into the venue and work on fixing it all up. I had sort of anticipated having to do some minor work to right the figurines as they were listing when I loaded them into the car so I did have icing and tools to work on it but I wasn't anticipating the extent of the damage I had to deal with. Anyway - without resorting to the superglue, I left the cake and figurines standing upright without too much other damage. How long they remained like that is anyone's guess although I did convince a waitress to keep her eye on it and apply the play-doh like icing blobs I left where required, so fingers crossed that both figurines didn't end up on the floor squished under a waiters foot..  not a perfect cake day and probably only myself to blame.
