Murray River Easter Orienteering & KI
Tuesday, 9 April 2024
We are home (sort of - St Helens anyway) from a super fun Easter 3 day orienteering competition in the Riverland of South Australia. We stayed in a house very close to the Murray that even had it's own jetty and lovely views that we soiled with our nightly display of washing. We stayed the the Marsh-Bluetts and the Simpson-Troedson family so there was plenty of time for games and hanging around which was really the highlight of the trip. As for the orienteering, it was hot for 3 out of the 4 days and very scrappy and scratchy. By the end of it my scratches had stratches, and my splinters had splinters: The terrain was also rocky - this isn't me but this is a fair representation of the prickly bush we were pushing through each day: I did ok but annoyed myself with some dumb mistakes - when the weather cooled down day 3 was my favourite, the others were a bit arduous in the heat. Jon also finished 3rd overall and the kids were a bit up and down but they enjoyed it. After it finished we headed south to Kangaroo Island, taking time to check out the mouth of the Murray on the way: Once on Kangaroo Island I had to work for a few days while the others did a bit of touring but I was still able to get out and about in the local area before and after work: And on my day off we all went out together to visit some honey farms and do a short walk: It suddenly seemed very dark in the mornings while we were away - this is the table laid for breakfast at about 6.45am as I was on my way out for a run. All up it was a great trip away.
