60 Walks Challenge - Walk #3

  • Name: Labillardiere Peninsula
  • Distance: 14k loop
  • Time: 3:06 - walk/jogging)
  • Official Walk Number #8

Another sneaky midweek escape for me! The forecast wasn't that great so I decided to keep to the lower altitudes today! It's handy that we only live 20 minutes from the Bruny Island Ferry so without getting up too early I was able to make the 7.30 crossing. Thus by 9am I was heading off from Jetty Beach around the Labillardiere Peninsula, very close to the southern tip of the island.

The first half of this walk (along the western side of the peninsula) is on an open and wide trail with a sandy surface - making it quite runnable actually, so I did run a fair chunk of it.  This week I was wearing Jon's special Solomon racing backpack which was just awesome - well it was once I worked out how to use the camel back thing so I could drink water.  To save space I took my little camera rather than the good one - so the photos aren't all that awesome as it was a bit of a cloudy day.  I managed to beat the rain most of the day though which was good.

Anyway - it's a very pretty walk in real life - lots of flowers and lovely water views.  And definitely best done before snake season as it's perfect snake country.

My favourite part of the walk is the 2nd part - once you get to the beach at the end of the peninsula - looking across to Partridge Island, then the trail turns and head south back to Jetty Beach.

My footsteps revealed I was probably the first person along the track today.. although mine weren't the only footsteps on the beach..

The last 5k was my favourite of the whole walk - the trail winds along the eastern shoreline, from beach to beach and over small headlands, until it drops you back on Jetty Beach.

Back at the car my legs were surprisingly tired but there was going to be no rest as I had to head off for my next walk...
